WorkSafe First Aid Instructor Training Course

The WorkSafe First Aid Instructor Training Course is a train the trainer programme designed for those who want to provide first aid training to their staff, customers or clients but do not currently have sufficient experience in the field. WorkSafe Training Systems provide instructor training up to and including the level of HSE approved First Aid at Work instructor/assessor, subject to minimum entry criteria.

The First Aid Instructor Training Programme is designed to build on an instructors existing knowledge and provide further in-depth knowledge and information on a wide range of related subjects. Practical demonstrations and lots of hands on experience make the programme interactive with example scenarios and teaching sessions taking place.

Course Programme:

The course follows a syllabus set over 3 days and includes:

  • First Aid Instructor Qualification in;
    • Emergency First Aid
    • Paediatric First Aid
    • First Aid at Work
    • First Aid at Work Assessor
  • Comprehensive instructor guide
  • Easy read lesson plans
  • Presentation materials
  • Opportunity to view and deliver example course elements
  • Assessment of presentation and assessor skills
  • Initial Approval Moderation Visit
  • Lunch and Refreshments
  • Certification awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems.

All First Aid Instructor Training Programmes will be conducted by a member of the WorkSafe Instructor Approvals team, all of whom have many years experience in the field. The course syllabus includes plenty of time to consolidate skills and ensure instructors complete the course feeling confident in being able to deliver student level training to their client group. Additional time is available for further skill development where required.

Following completion of the First Aid Instructor Training Programme the instructors action plan will be annotated and the newly approved instructor will be required to undertake an initial approval moderation visit that will be conducted during one of the first six programmes delivered by the newly qualified instructor.

Venue:  Normally delivered from our training premises but may be delivered on site where requested.

Entrance requirements:

Prior to acceptance on the programme all candidates must submit a comprehensive portfolio of evidence to support their application. A pro-forma for this is available within the instructor application pack. The minimum entry requirements are:

  • To hold a valid First Aid at Work Certificate issued by a HSE approved organisation.  Exemptions from holding a FAW certificate may be granted and in line with current HSE guidance.
  • Evidence of first aid experience in the workplace.
  • A formal teaching or assessing qualification. Where this is not held and experience cannot be shown by other methods/qualification an action plan will be issued to specify further observed moderations or obtaining of a relevant qualification. E.g. 7307, Cert Ed, A1.

Note:

The WorkSafe Instructor Development Programme will enable the instructor to deliver programmes designed and awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems. The instructor or assessor qualification does not necessarily give the instructor an award to deliver training programmes awarded by other organisations. Individual organisations are responsible for their own instructor qualifications although APL may be given by some organisations.
